Gannan was where I first began learning how to observe. I was initially drawn to the open landscapes and Tibetan culture that were unfamiliar to me. The photographs that stayed with me, however, were quieter: people exchanging a few words, hands shaped by repeated pilgrimage, and devotion woven naturally into daily life.
It was here that documentary photography began to mean more to me than recording what stood in front of the lens. I began looking for the stories that sustain culture, belonging, and continuity.
